Walking With God
Week 4
Walking With God
Walking forward with God, not ahead.
Last week, we discussed Spiritual Preparedness Through Grace; this week, our focus is Walking With God. Walking with God, to be cautious not to get ahead of Him. God’s timing is not our own. Staying in step with God, we must be aware of where He is guiding us. If we fall behind, we may lose His light; if we run ahead, we won’t know the correct path we should follow.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil” Proverbs 3:5-7
Trust In The Lord
Trust is in line with having faith in God. Having faith in God is trusting in Him wholeheartedly without wavering. Oftentimes God directs us in ways that may not make sense to us at the time, but when we trust in the Lord, lean NOT on our own understandings, seek Him to direct our paths; we won’t fail.
Questions Arise
It’s our human nature to ask questions, to wonder what the next step is, what’s God’s great and marvelous plan? I would love to say that I have never questioned God, but I would not be truthful to you if I did. I recall when God spoke to me clearly, as if He were standing right beside me, to direct me to, “It’s time to go home.” What happened? Panic, questions, panic, hysteria, confusion, what if’s….
God Changes My Direction
At the time this happened, I was working at the school where my kids were enrolled at the time, we were there for two years, and those years taught me some valuable lessons that God needed to teach me about the ability I had within me. Challenges were met with prayer and God’s guiding hand to overcome the obstacles that came my way during that time. The second year, I was so excited to get the opportunity to be in a classroom as an assistant.
God Equips Us
Everything went well that school year; we were in rhythm. This year had its challenges as well. The teacher I had been assisting had a child who was sick, resulting in her absence to teach that year, but I was her assistant and filled in for her. This proved more to me than what I knew. God was showing me the ability to teach, I always loved to teach, no matter what the subject, creative projects, bible or arithmetic. I enjoyed watching the young minds’ light bulbs turn on the moment they understood a concept, a priceless experience.
It’s Time To Go
One day in February, I was at my desk grading papers, and that’s when I heard God tell me, “It’s time to go home.” The questions were flying out of my head; I don’t remember much more that afternoon as I was playing several “What if’s,” and “But what about…” in my mind. I decided to try God in His decision. This was a frantic, nervous thought to remove all of my children from school and homeschool them, with me being their only teacher, multiple grade levels at the same time. YIKES!
How Am I Going To Do This?
Breathe! I took some time, actually a week, and prayed day and night to be sure I heard God correctly, and tried to understand our next course of actions into this plan. My husband at the time was not a fan of the idea, but it’s funny what prayer can do, and when God is directing the way, obstacles will be moved. I remember taking an hour-long bath, praying the entire time, and asking God, “He’s your son, if this is your clear direction for this, I won’t do this without Him supporting this next journey. You need to prepare Him for when I approach my husband about homeschooling.”
Me Preparing For The Lions Den
I remember having my hair still wrapped up, and I went to find my husband outside. I was so horrified even to speak; I didn’t know if I had given God enough time to prepare my husband. The moment I told him what happened and how I prayed on it for a week, I was prepared in my mind to have a full conversation about why we should homeschool. The next thing shocked me to my core. He looked at me and said, “Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.”
God’s Got This
AHUM…. You mean to tell me that I had prepared a long speech with research on educational values, etc., to have him simply say, okay. Yup, God was already working on my husband while He was convincing me.
Fully Trust In Him
When we trust in God’s plans for us, we must also be reminded to fully trust in Him. If God calls you to do something, He has already equipped you with what you need to accomplish it, or He is about to send you on a journey that will get you to achieve that goal.
God won’t ask you to do something you are incapable of accomplishing. Noah never experienced rain and didn’t know what an ark even looked like. David was anointed to be king years before he was ever king.
Psalm 37: 23:24
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in His way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with His hand.”
God’s Got A Plan
When we have full trust in God, we can rest easy knowing that any obstacles that we may come across, He’s already figured out, those bridges have already been built for us. God asks us to have faith in Him and to walk blindly as He leads the way. It’s not up to us to always figure out the next step; it’s our responsibility to be obedient and stay in line with Him along the way. When planning a big event, I get nervous. Do I have all the items? Is my schedule planned out flawlessly? Those are my plans, but when God tells me to do something, I can fully trust He has everything already scheduled on His perfect timing and He has already equipped me with what I may need. I’m not as nervous when it’s His will, because His timing is perfect, mine, well, it has its flaws!
Reflect
What is God asking of me today?
What action can I take to be obedient to what God asks of me?
