Matthew 4:23-25
“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. (24) And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them. (25) And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judea, and from beyond Jordan.”
When We Trust In Jesus, We Become New Creatures
2 Corinthians 5:17- “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
In a previous Bible study, we read about how Jesus called His first four disciples-, Peter, Andrew, James, and John- to follow Him and spread the gospel. Verses 23-25 show that they didn’t waste any time; they left their ships and families to follow Jesus.
We know there are sacrifices that come with following Jesus, but when we see them from an eternal perspective, those sacrifices are temporary. Often, we hesitate to embrace change-that’s our human nature. But if we have faith in Jesus is remolding us for His purpose, and have faith in the direction He leads us, we will see His blessings unfold. When we look at leaving a job, our home, or a relationship that draws us closer to Jesus, we shouldn’t view it as a sacrifice, but rather as a form of purification in our walk as Christians.
A New Creature In Christ
I remember when I first truly found Jesus (I found Him, He always knew where I was). I was overwhelmed with joy knowing my sins were forgiven and I had an eternal home in heaven. That joy radiated through everything I did- housework, paying bills, and conversations. I remember folding clothes while worship music blared throughout the house, singing with a heart so full I felt like I was on a mountaintop and could see the vision of what heaven, my home, would look like.
Being a New Creature in Christ means that our old ways are passed away, and our new way of life, friends, and our daily walk changes.
Supporting Scriptures:
Galatians 2:20- “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
Romans 14:8 “For weither we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.”
Collossians 3:1 “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.”
Galatians 3:27 “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”
Philippians 1:21- “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
Christians Are Reflections Of Jesus
When we’re born again through Christ’s salvation, our old self-the sinful nature-dies, and we become reborn into a reflection of Jesus Christ. Are we perfect? No. We still wrestle with sin and temptation every day, so we must confess our sins daily to renew our minds and hearts. We have not been made perfect, but we are saved sinners through Jesus Christ and the gift of salvation He freely offers. Confession, prayer, and repentance become part of our daily walk with Him.
Ephesians 6:12- “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Disciples Followed Jesus Closely
The disciples went with Jesus and witnessed the amazing miracles that He performed. The kingdom of heaven was added to daily by so many that believed in Jesus as their Savior. Jesus healed their bodies, minds, and spirits. He gave them hope through forgiveness and gave them a new life. The disciples were close to Jesus; they left their old life behind and were made into new creatures-Christians-Christ-like. This time was a time of miraculous healing, renewed hope, and a new life for so many. To Serve Christ, We Must Know Christ
To Serve Christ, We Must Know Christ
We hear of so many being bold and sharing their testimonies of what Jesus has done in their lives. I shared my testimony with you in the previous post.
So, how can one become a witness and serve Christ?
The first thing a new Christian should do is to get grounded in the Word of God! This is so important because we begin a true relationship in knowing Jesus on a deeper level. To serve, we must first know who we are serving.
After Jesus was baptized by John, He went into the wilderness and was tempted by the devil. As a new Christian, satan knows we are vulnerable-New-Reborn- Creatures. We are made pure and are set on a new path for our lives. It is important to pray, read your bible daily, and reflect on His Word in order to grow spiritually stronger. You will begin to see the world in a new light!
You must form your strong foundation in Christ. To do that, we must follow Him closely. To read the Bible is to read God’s love letter He left for you and me. His instruction manual we learn from and find His guidance, His hope, His reassurance, and His promises to us. Grow in God’s Word, and He will strengthen you daily! Just like a newborn baby, a new Christian needs to live on every Word of God.
Matthew 4:4 “..Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
How Did Jesus Defeat The Devil?
Jesus left us the example, not to argue with satan, but to defeat him through the Word of God. If you missed the Bible study on Overcoming Temptation, I encourage you to check it out! We discover how Jesus defeats Satan, not by opinion but by facts.
Ephesians 6:10 –“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. (11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. (17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perserverance and supplication for all saints; (19) And for mem that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth bodly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, (20)For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therin I may speak boldly, as I out to speak.”
How To Be A Witness And Serve God
To be a witness to others and serve God, we must be sure to have a close relationship with Him daily. Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior? If so, you are a new creature in Christ; therefore, you have the most amazing guide anyone would ever need…The Holy Spirit!
The Holy Spirit abides within us and is our conscience and our guide to grow stronger in God’s Word. If you don’t understand a passage, stop and ask God to clarify so you may understand. He is the author and will make it clear to you. I have a post explaining in more detail about Reading the Bible, and I have plans to do another deeper dive into several ways you can be a student of God’s Word. There are many ways, and there is no right or wrong way, but it’s important to be grounded in the bible. Knowing some key ways to navigate the Bible while studying will enhance your understanding.
The more time you spend with God through praying and reading the Bible, the more opportunities He will reveal to you to share His Word with others. But don’t force anyone to know the gospel, not everyone is ready to hear about Jesus, but you can still reflect the love and kindness towards others and by doing so you still show them a reflection of Jesus.
Plant, Fertilize, Water
You may meet people in various stages of their Christian walk. Some have been grounded for years they can recite Bible verses word for word. Others are just hearing about Jesus for the first time. You could either plant the seed, fertilize, or water the gospel message-you are not tasked to do them all. God will reveal Himself to sinners at different stages and different times in their lives. Know that even the smallest part to be a reflection of Jesus Christ- no matter how small of a witness- it’s still important! It’s in the little things that add to the biggest impacts!
How can you reflect Jesus to others?
Before you go, let’s say a prayer together…
Heavenly Father,
We ask that you forgive us of our shortcomings. We know that we still live in a sinful world, our flesh still wants to continue to live a sinful path, but we know that after trusting in You for our salvation, we are made into New Creatures through Jesus Christ. I ask that You continue to help me and my new friend to grow stronger in Your Word every day, to draw closer to You. May You help us to be a reflection of Christ’s Love towards others and to be a witness when called to be, help us be sensitive, teach us to be a witness, and give us the words to speak that reflect You. Father, You know each one of us and the abilities You’ve blessed each one with. I pray we will use those to further Your heavenly Kingdom. Thank You for this time we have to study Your precious Word, I ask that You would help me to continue sharing Your message. We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Don’t miss the next bible study!
Some Bible studies may take longer than others to get through, as I am led to explain in greater detail the verses that we come across. These blog posts are not created by AI or used with any AI-generated assistance. These comments are of my own and where God leads me to write. I am not a professional, just a southern wife, mother of four, and I have a desire to spread the truth of our loving Heavenly Father. I want you to know, He loves you and He desires to have a relationship with you. We are not expected to be perfect, but we are expected to be lead by God and I feel that He has given me so much to share, I am not here for the fame or glory, but to get the message of Gods’ Love out to you, my new friend and so many others.
God be with you!
