1 Thessalonians 5:18

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Give Thanks

What a fitting passage of Scripture for this week, to examine the act of giving thanks. As we begin to make plans with our loved ones for this Thanksgiving Holiday, let us remember the ONE we need to give thanks most to - Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! May we be grateful for the opportunity to prepare and gather with our loved ones, and may we remember those who have passed on before us by keeping their precious memories close to our hearts.

Give thanks and keep a grateful heart for all those things that God has done for us. Health, family, a roof over our head, clothes on our backs, and above all, the opportunity to have eternal life through our Lord Jesus. Being forgiven of all sins, to have a renewed life by walking with the Almighty Creator every day. There’s no need to wait on Him, He is always with us, we only need to call upon Him and our Heavenly Father, the Creator of Heaven and earth, hears you and me! What an amazing thought!

Preparing For Thanksgiving

Preparing a meal fit for a king can be a daunting task, especially when you have several grubby hands snacking as they walk past the kitchen. We have a big family, and my adult children are soon going to multiply into even more mouths to feed! But this is not a burden, but a blessing! To prepare food for the picky eater to be sure each person has their favorite dish, it takes effort, patience, and love. I always write out a menu that seems to be more than my two hands can prepare in one day, but somehow it gets done! The ultimate reward is to enjoy the family gathering, to hear the blessing over the food, sit at one big table, and have conversations catching up on future plans and the current events in each other’s lives. Let us not focus on getting every dish perfect or the table settings and decor just right; those are nice to enjoy, but what everyone will remember the most is the warm, loving fellowship.

Cooking With The Lord

If you are making a dish or preparing the entire meal for your family, as you peel the potatoes, dress the turkey, and bake the pies, pray over each person that will be joining you for the feast. When we do this, our mind stays focused on being grateful and being blessed, and not so much on the chores of preparing the meal. If you don’t get all your planned dishes done, it’s okay, it’s best to be present in the moment then to look back and not remember any of it. Don’t be so busy you don’t have time for the true fellowship opportunity with your loved ones.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for another year to celebrate Thanksgiving with our friends and loved ones. May each gathering be blessed and have You present with us all as we fellowship. I pray a special blessing upon those who will prepare the meals, may they be strong, wise in timing, and enjoy the preparation time with You at their side. For those who do not have family to celebrate with, I pray You will be with them, comfort them, and I pray that someone may reach out to them and invite them into their home or bring them a meal, may nobody be alone during this holiday season. I pray a blessing upon those uniting in prayer, that they may know You and have everlasting life, believe in faith, through Jesus Christ.

We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

May God be with you, my friend in Christ!

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving from our family to yours!
