Key Verses of Discussion
Matthew 7:7-11
Psalm 34: 4
Jeremiah 29:11-14
John 14: 13-15
If you’re joining me today, I’m so glad you’re here. Take a moment to settle in—grab a fresh, hot cup of coffee or tea, your Bible, and maybe a notebook—and let’s spend some intentional time in God’s Word together.
In the last devotion, we explored “Neither Cast Your Pearls Before Swine” in our Beatitudes Bible Study Series. We looked at what Jesus teaches through this parable, including the meaning of pearls and the symbolism of dogs and swine as those who are spiritually unreceptive. It’s a reminder that there is a time and place for everything—including when and how we share the Gospel with others. If you missed it, be sure to go back and read Beatitudes Series Part 12.
As we continue our study of the Beatitudes, there is so much to unpack. We’re taking this journey slowly and intentionally, because even a few verses can hold deep wisdom and truth. Studying the Bible isn’t about rushing to the finish—it’s about growing, understanding, and drawing closer to God with each step.
Let’s continue walking through this Beatitudes Bible Study together, learning what Jesus teaches and applying His truth to our daily lives.
Better Than What We Deserve
Matthew 7:7-11
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” Matthew 7:7-11
Ask, Seek, Knock- Trusting God’s Response
Jesus is teaching us in this passage to seek God in all things, to communicate with our Heavenly Father, even in the smallest of everyday circumstances. He wants a continual relationship with us, His children. When we ask God to be with us, our relationship becomes more personal. When we invite Him to join us on a commute to work, cleaning our home, or preparing meals, He will be there for us throughout the good times and bad.
Reflecting on the thought of how great God is, one may think He would not want to be bothered with our day-to-day happenings of everyday average ebb and flow of an ordinary day. This is where we are sadly mistaken! To have clear communication with a friend or loved one, we must stay in contact with them; doing so helps us to know them better. The relationship between our Heavenly Father and us should be a top priority.
Ask and Ye Shall Find, Knock It Shall Open
Jesus continues to explain that our prayers are heard when we are in line with God’s will. Ask, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. God already knows what needs we have before we become aware. Often enough, we may not know what we need exactly, but when the solution to our conflict presents itself, we know that God has heard our prayers.
Ask Of Bread And Get A Stone
Jesus reminds us that God sees us not just as His Creation, but through Salvation in Jesus Christ, we are reborn, made into sons and daughters. What son would ask of his parents for bread, and the father would give him a stone? God is for us and wants the best for us.
If Ye Being Evil
Human nature doesn’t naturally have good intentions; naturally fallen beings who are persuaded by sin daily. When Jesus says, If our children were to ask us for something, would we not in turn give them good gifts? He is showing us a parallel that we mean more to God than just beings He created; we are His children. When we ask God for help, we shouldn’t have doubts about what He would do for us. Just like a parent loves their children, God has even more love for us, a love that we can’t truly comprehend. God, our Heavenly Father, wants what is best for us. God supplies our every need; we may not always get what we want, but we are supplied with our needs. Even in tribulous moments, we can still see God’s protection upon us; we are to be grateful for the blessings He has given.
Better Than I Deserve
Many times over the years, I’ve heard the older generation great with a saying, “How are you?” with their response being, “Better than I deserve.” With a grateful attitude, we can find the ray of light and hope that God supplies our every need. We just need to reflect, and we will find all the blessings and grace He gives to us, “Better than what we deserve.”
Supporting Scripture
Psalm 34:4: “ I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”
Jeremiah 29:11-14: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will harken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the Lord…”
John 14:13-15: “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
Please join me in prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for always being ready and waiting to hear our prayers. You are faithful to supply our every need, better than what we deserve. Father, I ask that You help us to lean on You more each day, not just to ask for necessities but to also come with a heart full of gratitude, in recognizing all You do to protect and supply our every need from the smallest to the greatest. Knowing that we mean so much to You that You would make a way for us to live with You for all eternity, You came down from Heaven to be the sacrifice for all humanity. You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I want to thank You now for this day You have blessed me with, another day to share Your love with others, Your message that You are always with us. May we be reminded daily of Your grace towards us, that You pour blessings into our lives more than what we deserve. With a grateful and blessed heart, I thank You for being faithful even when I fall short. I pray You will bless those who have joined this devotion, as short as some may be, the messages are impactful and a blessing of reminders of the great Father that You are to us. We ask this in Your precious Holy Name, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Quick Note:
Some Bible studies may take longer than others, as I am often led to explain certain verses in greater detail. I want you to know that these blog posts are written straight from my heart - they are not created by AI, so if you pay close attention, you may find my little nuggets of imperfections! What you read here are my own thoughts and reflections, guided by where God leads me.
I am not a professional; I’m simply a southern wife and mother of five with a deep desire to share the truth of our loving Heavenly Father. He loves you, and He longs to have a relationship with you. We are not called to be perfect, but we are called to be led by Him.
God has placed so much on my heart to share, and my prayer is that these words bless and encourage you. I’m not here for recognition or fame - only to spread the message of God’s love to you, my new friend, and to many others.
